The Eureka Nook (TEN) curates well-designed products for kids and homes. For us, good design covers both how toys, clothes, and furnishings are made and how they look (in reality, not just on Instagram).
We’ve gone down the rabbit holes — the certifications and legal definitions, the conventional wisdom and mythologies, the evolving science and research — so you don’t have to. We’re here to show you the shortcuts. Why “wood” or “organic” or “non-toxic” might not mean what you think. What to look for on the tag and the tin and the box. Which obscure certifications are table stakes, differentiators, and window dressing.
Or — if you prefer — skip ahead and just see all the cool and lovely things we found. TEN lives in the big, beautiful world between the garish industrial plastic complex and the beige sea of sand.
Eureka to take with you: You can become a chemical hygienist, spend more time researching than playing, and wallow in the shame of imperfection. OR… you can shop from responsible and reputable brands, prioritize natural materials, and choose whatever brings you and your family joy.

When I was little, I was a huge gymnastics fan. Back when you could understand what made a routine good, great, and perfect. A perfect 10 required doing a few really hard things flawlessly and presenting them in a beautifully executed routine.
At some point, the rules changed. The scoring became impossible to follow but seemed to reward difficulty over execution, and artistry not at all. And there’s no “perfect 10” anymore — not because of some grand realization that perfection is impossible, but in the horribly oppressive insistence that one could always have done more.
When it comes to figuring out the most “non-toxic” products for our kids and homes, it feels like we’ve moved to a similar scoring system. Too complicated, too much performative, and not enough performance. And however much you do, the judges are here to tell you that you could have done more.
We started The Eureka Nook to simplify the scoring, ditch the judginess, and reward artistry for the products we bring into our homes.
